South Korea offers a fantastic opportunity to get involved with one of the most vibrant and fast-
moving education sectors in the modern world. The country’s universities have risen up the
international rankings of South Korea’s and its various exports enabled it to seek out more overseas
students to help drive future innovations..
All of this means that study in South Korea is well worth for international students who are looking for exciting and rewarding overseas study experiences. The country has remarkably achieved the milestone in the higher educational sector by listing three of its universities out of the 100 in the ‘QS list of best universities in the world’. It should also be noted that not even a single Indian University has claimed its position in this prestigious ranking list. Also, 9 out of the top 50 universities in Asia are South Korean. Seoul, one of the major cities in South Korea, is named as the 10th best student cities in the world according to the ‘QS Best Student Cities rankings, 2015.
Korea, the motherland of the world famous brands and common Indian household names such as LG, Hyundai and Samsung, offers more and more technical advancements year after year. Hence, the manpower to exploit the country’s technological resources also increases from time to time. The situation in Kerala now is that, in spite of the number of vacant seats available in engineering colleges here, a substantial number of students prefer to opt for colleges outside India. There’s still a huge demand for seats in top colleges, but students do not want to go to the poorly-run institutes that do not have enough teachers and quality knowledge sharing. Poor placement track records and lack of market oriented courses are other major reasons for the decline in demand for the local college admissions. They need wider job opportunities, higher standard of education and learning.
Compared to the traditional study destinations such as the US, Canada and the UK, Korea has a relatively lower cost of study considering both tuition and living costs. Korea does not impose additional fees for foreign students, and there are many scholarship programmers for foreign students, allowing them to study in Korea without much economic distress. Especially, as the Korean Government recently announced substantial support and deregulation for foreign students regarding scholarships, dormitory, part-time jobs, and employment after graduation, Korea has become a more convenient and possible study destination with less cost.
